The Science of Dub
We’re delighted to be part of the upcoming festival programme presented by Certain Blacks, and to bring this special immersive dub event to Rich Mix.
This performance brings together three distinct but deeply connected voices in dub: Scientist, one of the original architects of the genre; Greg Hunter (Dubsahara), a key figure in expanding dub into spatial and ambient territory; and The Science of Dub, presenting Dub Engine as an immersive project that rethinks how dub is experienced in space.
Together, this is not simply a show — it is an exploration of dub as a living system. Alongside the live performance, the project includes a workshop that invites audiences inside the process, breaking down how dub is built, shaped, and performed. Through sound, discussion, and demonstration, the workshop explores bass, delay, echo, and space in an open and accessible way — showing how these elements come together in an immersive environment. Rooted in sound-system culture but not operating as a sound system, Dub Engine presents dub as architecture, as movement, and as a shared experience felt collectively in the room.
Being part of the Certain Blacks festival programme is especially meaningful. The festival’s commitment to culture, experimentation, and community aligns perfectly with what this project stands for — honouring heritage while pushing forward, creating space for new forms without losing sight of where the sound comes from.
This is not a retrospective. It’s not a museum piece. It’s dub in motion, presented immersively, shaped in real time, and experienced in full dimension.
We can’t wait to bring this to Rich Mix.

A rare, one-off workshop exploring dub as it’s created, performed, and experienced in space.
Led by Scientist, one of the original architects of dub, and Greg Hunter (Dubsahara), whose work bridges classic dub, ambient, and spatial sound, this session opens up how bass, delay, and echo behave in an immersive environment. Guided by The Science of Dub / Dub Engine, the workshop invites participants inside the creative process through live demonstration, discussion, and deep listening.
This is not a technical masterclass, but an open and accessible experience — designed for artists, students, and curious listeners alike. Rooted in sound-system culture while looking firmly forward, it offers a rare chance to understand dub as a living, evolving practice.
This workshop only happens because these artists are in the room together. It’s a unique moment, shaped live, and it won’t be repeated.
